Ever wonder what you would learn if you sparked a conversation with a complete stranger? How about 100 strangers? You know, just casually walk into the life of a complete stranger in order to take their portrait and learn a little bit more about them. This is what the 100 Strangers Project is all about. I learned of this project while browsing through some blogs and I’ve decided to take on the challenge.
People take on this project in an attempt to step out of their comfort zone and take portraits of 100 people that they’ve never met before. I’m actually pretty comfortably meeting new people. What worries me is getting people to understand that I’m not some kind of stalker. I have to admit I’ve actually taken a class in photojournalism and realized that it was not my cup of tea.
I remember my professor telling the class, “If you want to live the glamorous life and make easy money then go study studio photography. But if you want to work hard and spend tiring days and sometimes nights waiting anxiously to get that one perfect shot while earning little money then photojournalism is for you”. Yeah. He had me at glamorous. What was even stranger is that nobody walked out! I ended up dropping the class half way through and later became a studio photographer. What can I say? I love living the glamorous life and making easy money but more importantly I enjoy the air conditioning.
Why am I challenging myself in this way? Mainly to put my PR skills to good use of course. It’s a great way to meet people and an even better way to get my name out into the community.
Follow me as I take you into the lives of 100 strangers and hopefully make some friends along the way.
